A German tennis player recently went viral after he partially rendered himself visionless after he flung a racket into his own face.

The player, Tim Puetz, starred alongside his Danish partner Freddie Nielsen against top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah at the Qatar Open in Doha on Wednesday.

While he managed to get his racket to the ball, he somehow mishit it and the outcome was disastrous.

The racket somehow slipped from his hands and slammed the turf before bouncing back and hitting him straight in the eye in a freak incident.

Understandably, Puetz was in severe pain and he went down on his knees, clutching his face.

As he stayed down writhing in pain, Nielsen carried his racket to his bag while Cabal helped him with a chair.

Mohamed Lahyani, the Chair Umpire rushed to his aid and Puetz was quick to tell him, “I cannot see very well.

“Freddie I can see pretty well when I’m stationary. But if I look around, I can’t see very well.”

He was then given some ice to place on his eye in the hopes of making a speedy recovery.

Speaking on the freak incident, Puetz’s rival Farah said, “I feel very sorry for Tim.

“It’s something none of us want, to get hit in the eye, and I really hope he recovers really well.”

Puetz’s only tennis win came in 2014 in Wimbledon
