After a 1-1 draw with Egypt last week, a majority of Kenyans thought Harambee stars did their best, but not Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua.

He sent out a tweet saying Kenyans should just give up on football and focus on athletics, something that evoked a lot of anger and attacks.

Mutua trended for the better part of the weekend after the match and had a tough time trying to clarify his tweet.

“The mediocrity in this country hurts,” said Mutua after the Tweet.

Still, even after sharing a deeper perspective of his tweet, Kenyans were still not having it. Many insist that his tweet was unpatriotic considering that he holds a government office.

On Saturday, he took to social media again to share another message saying that his earlier post was meant to educate Kenyans on the drastic measures that need to be taken in our sports industry. He spared a newspaper clipping speaking on the same but this didn’t help clean up his tweet.

“Forget about the clueless fellows who were attacking me for my comments about Harambee Stars drawing with Egypt, here’s someone who understands what I meant. We should take drastic measures to revive football in Kenya. The article by Roy Gachuhi is a masterpiece!” he said.
