Naomi Osaka is pregnant and plans to return to competition in 2024, the tennis star announced.
The former world No. 1 posted what she called “a little life update for 2023” on social media, including a picture of an ultrasound. The 25-year-old Osaka has been dating Cordae, a rapper, for years.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’” Osaka wrote.
The couple, who have been quietly seeing each other for several months, made the revelation on social media, sharing pictures of them together and expressing their love for each other.
Despite calling tennis “not my sport,” Cordae can often be spotted in the stands cheering on Osaka. The couple even attended the Met Gala together in 2021.
Osaka, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, and Cordae, a rising star in the hip-hop scene, met through mutual friends and quickly hit it off. They have been dating for several months and have decided to make their relationship public.
“I’m grateful to have someone like Cordae in my life,” Osaka said in a statement. “He’s an amazing person and I’m so happy we found each other.”
Cordae, whose real name is Cordae Dunston, also shared his feelings for Osaka, saying, “Naomi is an incredible woman and I feel so lucky to be with her. I’m excited for the future and everything we’ll accomplish together.”
As for how this new relationship might affect their respective careers, both Osaka and Cordae have said they plan to continue to focus on their professional pursuits while also making time for each other. The couple is currently enjoying a romantic vacation together in a secret location.
